What is wrong with my 2009 hyundai sonata v6?

Question: What is wrong with my 2009 hyundai sonata v6?

(Posted by: carmen on 2010-02-03 12:08:09)

There is white smoke coming from the tail pipe I notice when I am sitting at the light and the car's lights behind me makes the smoke visible. The car still runs very smoothly, but I do smell a carbon monoxide smell of burning after I've driven the car and return home. I don't smell it in the car, just outside of the car. The oil has been changed regularly, and I'm due next month for another change, but the oil is darker then what I think it should be for a newer car that only has 20, 000 miles on it. It does not appear to be burning oil, although it is really sucking up the gas to the point that I know something is wrong with it. Any ideas what is wrong with my car?

First things first, you cannot smell carbon monoxide, its an odorless gas. That's why they sell carbon monoxide detectors for your house. Second. it just sounds like its the exhaust, all cars do that when its cold out. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with the car. If you are still worried, just take it into the dealer.

White smoke is radiator fluid getting inside the engine. Could be a cracked head or blow head gasket. Take it back to the dealership because it is still under warranty.

White smoke tells me there is moisture - water getting in the engine, during cold seasons it is normal during startup while engine is warming up because of condensation. If the smoke is present all the time, and is thick then you may have a crack inside the engine or other causes that is leaking water.

White smoking means that you are burning oil. The car is using oil more than its suppose to be doing. You could have too much oil in the car. There could be an engine problem. Some type of misfire. I would take it to a dealership and let them take a look. They'll know what the problem will be, and they will fix it right the first time! Good luck!
