I have a 2001 hyundai sonata. Lately it has been quitting when i put it in gear and is hard to start. It will?
sit and rev up by itself to about 3000 rpm and then drop back to about 900 rpm. Today it quit and i tried holding the accelerator to the floor and then not accellerating. It finally started when i " Pumped" the accelerator. Could it be the throttle position sensor, or does it even have one.

I must say that if the hubs are what I see immediately behind the decorative cover whatever that is called , they do not look new. They look rusty if anything.
2001 Hyundai Sonata - After adding gas the engine is hard starting and dies?
After adding gas it seems like there is no gas at the cylinders and it just spins. When it does finally start it will immediately die if the RPMs drop lower than about 2000 RPM. After reving it up for about 60 secs it will run fine. If I just take the gas cap off and do not add gas it starts normally. Is the gas gauge sending data to the computer ? If so what componet is malfunctioning? Help BallonRich Thanks for the suggestion. I too first suspected the fuel pump some how not being able to maintain high enough pressure after the cap was removed. Removing the cap has no impact unless I add gas. The car running perfect except for this refill thing, never a starved for gas symptom even under very heavy accelleration. This has been going on for over a year.I have been searching the internet for answers and the purge control valve keeps coming up in Hyundai Forums. Does anyone have experience with this valve? ernie

2001 Hyundai Sonata Idles Rough/Shuts Off Intermittently?
Hi My 2001 Hyundai Sonata has been idling rough shutting off intermittently for the last 6 8 months, with the " Check Engine" light coming on only about 2 3 months ago. I have tried cleaning the fuel lines, replacing the IAC motor, and, today, replacing the MAF sensor. It seemed like the problem was fixed after changing the sensor, but it started to idle rough again. The car will idle about 800 1000 RPMs, drop down to about 400 600 and then shoot back up again. Occasionally, after driving for long distances and coming to a stop a light, the car will just shut off . I took the car to my local service station to see why the " Check Engine" light was still on, but there were no pending codes. The light is off now. Since this morning, I have changed my air filter and tightened the air ducts, but the car is still idling roughly every so often. What am I missing here? Please help I can't keep dropping money on parts that are not fixing the problem...

I am returning my 2004 nissan sentra for a 2001 hyundai sonata with only 15,000 more miles on it than my nissan. The kelly book value is for 7,500 on a good condition sonata which is the condition of the car and has a v6 engine which is good for my long drives. Basically I am wondering if anyone on here has ever had one from 2001 and up and can tell me something's about that I won't learn from the dealership. Thank you.Oh and yeah, I can't keep the nissan like I want to because I owe too much on it. I have to get a cheap car and something fast with my friend who is agreeing to co sign for me. So it is really my friend's decision about what car to get since his name will be on the registration but I will be the payee and the owner essentially of the car.
